Expanding on the same brand of anarchic comedy and wild fusion of musical influences, Mr Vast is a one-man show that resists easy definitions: a slapstick cabaret, a surrealist happening, an avant-garde concert, a tragicomic carnival, an ecstatic ritual.

Sandpit Collective Presents "Other Asias" - Mirrors for Princes: The Dove's Lost Necklace

The second part of Khemir's desert trilogy is situated in Medieval Spain, 11th Century Andalucía, where the story revolves around Hassan, a student of Arabic calligraphy under a grand master. After coming across a fragment of a manuscript, Hassan goes in search of the missing pieces, believing that once he finds them, he will learn the secrets of love. With the help of Zin, a lovers' go-between, he meets the beautiful Aziz, Princess of Samarkand. After encountering trials reminiscent of a 1001 nights he learns the true nature of love.
On his film Khemir says, "This is not an Andalusian love story, but Andalusia as the very essence of love, through its perfumes, poetry and gardens."

Sandpit Collective Presents "Other Asias" - Mirrors for Princes: The Wanders of the Desert

The Sandpit Collective, in partnership with the University of Sussex, presents, 'الهائمون Les Baliseurs du Desert, Wanderers of the Desert,' by artist, poet and cineast Nacer Khemir.
In the first part of his desert trilogy, Khemir articulates a Sufi tale in a quest for roots, identity, love and freedom. Based on a poem, the film revolves around the arrival of a young teacher at a remote desert border village obsessed with a mysterious treasure. Here the children have never been to school and are cursed to eternally wander, seeking the boundaries of the limitless sand dunes. In an homage to the classical splendour of Arabian culture, magic and reality overlap.
