The Rose Hill welcomes Traditional Mutant (live duo) and Anatloian Grooves (strictly vinyl DJ set) for an epic night of contemporary and traditional Turkish music from the Anatolian peninsula (the Asian part of Turkey).
Traditional Mutant is the captivating collaboration between one of Turkey’s most revered guitarists and mutli- instrumentalists Salih Korkut Peker (SKP) and percussionist, vocalist and saz player DJabbar aka Jabbaristan. They blend traditional instruments such as the cümbüş, çağlama* and fretless guitar with an array of Middle Eastern percussion including darbuka and frame drum, with live electronics to create an improvised performance that’s hypnotic, soulful and irresistibly danceable.
* Çağlama is a modern Turkish hybrid musical fretted instrument that fuses the soul and microtonal capabilities of the traditional Anatolian baglama (saz) with the raw power and amplification of an electric guitar. Here is a link to a video of Salih Korkut Peker playing Çağlama.
Opening the night, Burak Cetindag (Anatolian Grooves) will warm up the room with his signature vinyl set, blending rare grooves from 1970s and 1980s Anatolian psychedelic rock, jazz, funk and disco-folk with contemporary gems.
Anatolian Grooves DJ Set: 7.00-9.15pm
