We’re humbled to welcome back the incredible and unique maestro Ustad Noor Bakhsh to The Con Club! As part of our Rose Hill Elsewhere series, where we invite exceptional artists to share their work in a larger space than our humble Rose Hill, we are so happy to have Noor return to The Con Club for us this year. Having sold out the Queen Elizabeth Hall (London) just a few years ago, he’s sold out each of the shows he’s played for us and this will be no exception. We love what he does and we know you do too, so get your tickets now before they’re gone in a flash!
** this show will be held at LEWES CON CLUB ! **
Ustad is a world-renowned virtuoso of an extremely unusual instrument (electric Benju) from a fascinating part of the world (Makran coastal border of Pakistan/Iran). He plays rarely-heard long-form spiritual dance music called Balochi – it’s infectious, you won’t be able to stay still – and you won’t want to!
We hosted Ustad at The Con Club, Lewes last summer – naturally it sold out super quick and this will be no different.
“Bakhsh’s trills and cascading improvisations are guided by the unending pursuit of beauty, the simultaneous embrace of sorrow and transcendence (…) It’s the kind of music that leaves you grasping for the spiritual and indefinable, that burrows into your soul and glows there!!” — Pitchfork
After his first ever UK gig in March 2024, his sell out show at Queen Elizabeth Hall (Southbank) London ended up as a riotous dance party with EVERYONE out of their seats and moving to the stunning music. It was no surprise when this happened at Lewes Con Club last summer and it’ll be no surprise when it happens AGAIN – this time at The Rose Hill this August.
“ He is a master of his instrument, which at times takes your consciousness off to distant faraway places, and as high in the sky as the birdsong he is inspired by.” — Sonny Tyler, BrightonAndHoveNews.Org
