Mehfil-e-Rose Hill, the hugely popular south Asian classical music series is back and we are excited for what’s in store for 2026!

This immersive double bill of Carnatic performances featuring veena player Mithila Sarma and classical violinist Vivek Dinesh, accompanied by Abhiram Sahathevan on the mridangam, brought to you by The Mehfil Space and zerOclassikal!

Mithila Sarma is a London-born artist of South Asian classical music, trained in East London with further training from India since the age of seven. She represents a growing number of musicians with training in South Asian classical music, looking at exploring new ideas within the genre. She plays the veena, a large plucked lute and one of South Asia’s oldest instruments (with a recorded history going back to about 1500!).

Vivek Dinesh is a south asian classical violinist and Carnatic vocalist based in London. He has performed as a violinist alongside prolific musicians Sri Sikkil Gurucharan, Sri Patri Satish Kumar, Sri B.S. Purushottam and Sri J. Vaidhyanathan. He has also performed with artists Srirangam Venkata Nagarajan, Dr Adesh Sundaresan and Sri. T.N. Arunagiri, among others. Beyond Carnatic music, Vivek is also a Western classical violinist having performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Wigmore Hall and more. Vivek studies at the Royal College of Music on a full scholarship and recently won a prize at the Postacchini International Violin Competition in Italy.

Abhiram Sahathevan plays the Mridangam, an ancient, double-headed barrel drum, and is one of the finest young Mridangists in the UK. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma and a Masters in Mridangam and has established himself as one of the most popular and captivating Mridangists among classical dancers and musicians. He has accompanied many eminent Carnatic musicians and dancers from Sri Lanka and India and has played in numerous concerts, fusion orchestras and Arangetrams (the traditional debut solo performance for a student of South Asian classical dance, marking their graduation). He also plays a variety of eastern and western percussion instruments and has performed in many music concerts and orchestras around the world.

Mehfil-e-Rose Hill is a programme of South Asian classical raag music at The Rose Hill. The concept of mehfil is defined as “a gathering where music or poetry is performed for a small audience in an intimate setting.”
