A night of dynamic and exciting music from Brazil!
Zagaia unites Brazilian artists Renata Amaral and Laeticia with fiddler and saxophonist Thomas Rohrer. Drawing on years of collaboration with masters and communities of popular tradition, their performance moves through repertoires linked to projects such as A Barca and Orquestra Popular do Recife. Cocos, Bois, Carimbós, Jongos and Congados come alive through powerful rhythms, luminous melodies and expressive vocal traditions. The group will be joined by Brighton based percussionist Lizzie Ogle.
Borges Machado, the collaboration between André Borges and Fernando Machado, explores sound through field recordings and free improvisation. Their work transforms urban environments into immersive sonic landscapes, this can be heard on their debut album Building Sites.
Together, the two projects create an evening where ancestral rhythms and contemporary experimentation meet.
