BORGES MACHADO are experimental Brazillian music duo consisting of André Borges and Fernando Machado that explore improvisation and field recordings

ATHINA B – Named for a Brighton shipwreck and a fragment of a Slum of Legs lyric, Athina B are a band playing from the liminal spaces – capturing the sounds of twilight, halfway between dream and memory where birds are caught midflight, lit by a setting sun. Helmed by local favourites YOU&TH aka Maria Marzaioli and Rdyer, they turn found sounds, layered violin, bells, polyrhythms, harps, chants and charms into semi-improvised paeans to time and life and joy. With only a few performances to their name, they’ve already built a reputation for riveting performances and incredible on-stage chemistry. Not to be missed.

RELIGIOUS FIGURES – Isaac Ide’s ambient project opens the night, drawing inspiration from composers such as William Basinski, Sarah Davachi and Kali Malone. Expect sustained tones, harmonic subtleties and slow-moving structures that blur the line between stillness and motion. This performance unfolds in collaboration with visual artist Em Walker, with shifting visuals and sound transforming the room into a meditative field of resonance and light.

SHIT CREEK – From violin tape loop hiss on early self-released CD-Rs (2017-2018); to psychedelic bricolage on The Land Of The Remember (Crow Versus Crow, 2020); to underwater dream-songs on The Strangest Part Of The Dream Is That The Water Was Alive (Ikuisuus, 2021); glittering harmonium drone on Time Is The True River (Liquid Library, 2023).Fresh off performing at Colour Out Of Space 9, she’s currently exploring themes of desire and lack in maximalist, joyful sample sculptures. Constantly falling over, shattering and reconstituting – a radiant absence, a reaching for a light.

GRIN – Grin represents a fringe of meeting cultures. Fresh off the heels of the Lighthouse Young Creatives Project with her installation “We’re still here”; this Brighton resident Trans DJ seeks to share their message of Joyful resistance through music.

LENA – We are super excited for her feedback performance which she is resurrecting exclusively for The Fake Escape. lena(b. 2001, China) is a British Chinese is an emerging artist and facilitator. Using her body alongside technology and sound, lena’s practice reflects on liveness, identity and displacement, whilst striving for equitable exchange between viewer and performer. lena uses forms of deep listening, somatics and contact improvisation as methods to experience a return to the body whilst tapping into individual and collective rhythms.

FAULT THROWER – Fault Thrower is a duo of James Parsons on drums and Al Strachan on electronics and cornet, playing music that leans on the wild side of improv, but always with an instinct for following melodic and rhythmic tangents as and when they turn up!

POLLY SHANG KUAN BAND – Abtract four peice who serve up abstract noise spewed forth via electronics, tapes, voice, toys and other junk. Featuring the iconic Brighton artist and musician, Karen Constance.
