QUEER(JOY): Kalbells + Evadney + Persiajoon + KD Mar

  • The Rose Hill 70 Rose Hill Terrace Brighton, England, BN1 4JL United Kingdom (map)

Saturday 21st September | 6:30pm | £8-£14 advance tickets (plus PWYC option)

WOOHOOO! The launch of our first QUEER(JOY) event series is curated and founded by our very own Emily Jones with support from the Arts Council England (Merci merci very muchly). Some of you may recognise her from the many different roles she has played here from socials queen to bar manager to artist to website designer, coder and more!

QUEER(JOY) is a celebration and showcase of LGBTQIA+ artists from the Brighton scene and beyond, with each event focusing on a different creative space, this one being live music!!! Our aim is to create a space for LGBTQIA+ people to come together, find community, and enjoy and appreciate queer art(ists) with one another.

Expect nothing but good vibes and exceptional and eclectic live music, with the space then turning into a dance floor for a closing DJ set!! We will also be taking donations for The Village Food Bank for anyone who wishes to contribute food or other essential items to low-income LGBTQIA+ people in Brighton & Hove (more info below).

KalBells

We are beyond excited to be flying over one of our fave art- pop bands over from the US for their first UK tour! (look our for other UK dates and spread the word ) Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Kalbells will be bringing their cheeky lyrics, warm & dreamy bedroom pop moods, and deep funky bass lines to our first QUEER(JOY) gig!

Kalbells sprouted as the solo writing & recording project of Kalmia Traver (Rubblebucket). Over the course of 2 albums and countless performances (including a Tiny Desk concert and tours opening for Chrome Sparks & Lake Street Dive) the act has become an all-star groove collective comprised of Kalmia [she/they], Angelica Bess [she/her] (Body Languagee) and Sarah Pedinotti [she/they] (Liptalk).

Evadney

Evadney [he/him] is a Brighton-based vocalist and musician creating songs and live performances that move between intimacy and wild abstraction.

With two stunning EPs of poetic electronic-pop odysseys on Black Acre Records, Evadney’s music is inspired by his deeply felt explorations into love, identity, and the world of energy seen and unseen. Collaborating with music producers and visual artists, Evadney creates cinematic sonic and visual environments to drive the narrative of his spacious, haunting songwriting. Debuting his first full-length album in early 2025, Evadney is set to be a bold new left-field pop auteur on the UK music scene, bringing with him a new world of narrative-driven songs of exceptional beauty.

Persiajoon

Persiajoon [they/them] is an artist and producer. Their sound is distinctive; an amalgamation of electronic experimentation through sound synthesis and acoustic textures of their classically trained vocals. their song contents are influenced by their Persian/Middle Eastern lineage with songs sung both in Farsi and English. A grassroots organiser and activist, Persiajoon's music reflects this, a sound that is continuously developing, with their lyrics merging reality and absurdity with important messages underlying. Having began experimenting with live music after years of DJing in the local scene, Persiajoon's sets are a meticulously woven tapestry with microbeats and macrobeats alike, guaranteed to make you move, explore and feel.
