A monthly free entry experimental film event hosted by Ian Heliwell. Each month explores a different theme.
Fertile ground for experimental filmmakers to explore, the surreal world of dreams and the subconscious offers an uncanny, alternative reality and the disruption of logic and narrative conventions. This Synch Pulse presents a programme of short films from the 1940s to the present, which focus on dreamlike visions and beguiling and unsettling scenarios.
About Synch Pulse
Dedicated to screening short experimental films, each Synch Pulse programme features a themed selection delving into the archives to show vintage and contemporary work, with a strong emphasis on electronic and experimental music soundtracks. Designed as a free entry, monthly get-together for the uninitiated as well as devotees of underground movies and alternative sounds, it is compiled and presented by Brighton based artist-filmmaker and electronic music composer, Ian Helliwell.
Covering a variety of themes, each Synch Pulse will include local and international avant-garde shorts from past and present, covering a range of experimental film, animation and documentaries, many featuring electronic soundtracks. The hope is to create an ongoing series of short film programmes - plus occasional performances and discussions - to create a nexus for independent, left field movies. Future themed programmes include: architecture; railways; cities; sound visualization; space flight; world's fairs; collage; synthesizers; time; cosmic science; and synthetic sound.
