Cure your January blues with a warm evening of Afghan Music and storytelling in the Afghan tradition of Majlisi which is defined by folk music, storytelling, jokes and poetry.
Veronica Doubleday will be singing traditional Herati folk songs and playing daireh, accompanied on the dutar and rubab by John Baily. Sanjar Qiam will tell tales of plots, tragedy and romance which has inspired these folk classic songs.
Sanjar Qiam is an Afghan artist and storyteller based in Brighton. John Baily and Veronica Doubleday are ethnomusicologists who spent more than four decades researching and performing the music of Afghanistan alongside Afghan musicians inside and outside the Afghanistan.
