This is going to be special!
We are extremely honoured to be offering Mohammed Syfkhan his first ever UK performance, after being tipped off about this wonderful release from our friend Marc over at HiveMind Records. Plus support from the epic local Cuban artist Adriana Lord.
Mohammed is a Syrian/Kurdish singer and Bouzouki player who will celebrate his new album ‘I am Kurdish’. His music takes elements from Middle Eastern and North African music to create an atmosphere of joy, love and happiness. He is known for playing long sets into the night!
The songs on ‘I am Kurdish’ have been recorded for listening to at a small get together or to be played on big sound systems. Either way, it is a record that will make people dance, and we CANNOT wait to see him perform them live at The Rose Hill.
He’s supported the great Irish folk band Lankum, receiving rapturous applause from the 1000+ audience, and is now venturing
The Quietus just ran a feature on him, you can read that here: Sadness & Hope: The Harrowing Journey Of Mohammad Syfkhan
Here is video of him live:
A bit of Background :
He who used to live in Raqqa, performing with his much-sought-after group The Al-Rabie Band who played concerts, parties, weddings and festivals all over Syria.
After the war broke out one of his sons was killed by ISIS and he and his family were forced to seek shelter in Europe. They were repatriated via the refugee scheme - his three remaining sons were sent to Germany, whilst Mohammed, his wife and young daughter went to Ireland, which he now calls home.
Since arriving in Ireland, Mohammad has used the language of music to integrate into the local community by playing at private parties and concerts. He regularly plays at weddings and events for the Kurdish and Syrian communities all over Ireland and in Germany.
“I thank everyone who has stood with me and supported me. And I especially thank the Irish people who have engaged with my music in such a wonderful way. I consider myself lucky to have come to this wonderful country that has welcomed me and all refugees. I thank God for everything, and now, thanks to this wonderful country, I am a musician and have a safe home. Thank you to the Irish government and people for giving me the honour of calling this country my home.” - Mohammad Syfkhkan
