Mehfil-e-Rose Hill: South Asian classical music

  • The Rose Hill 70 Rose Hill Terrace Brighton, England, BN1 4JL United Kingdom (map)

Saturday 14th September | 7pm | £10-£16 advance tickets

We are delighted to launch 'Mehfil - e - Rose Hill' a new South Asian music programme curated by Atiya Gourlay.

For the launch she has teamed up with the brilliant ZerOclassikal a leading organisation who produce and develop contemporary South Asian classical artists and events.

A double bill of performances from UK emerging female artists: Amisha Karsan (sitarist) and Diksha Murli (vocalist) who will be accompanied on tabla by Marc Clayton.

The focus for this event is on South Asian raag and its intricate improvisations. They will play ragas melodies and complex taal (beat) improvisations, introducing each raga to enable the audience to better appreciate the rich and ancient history of this music.

The concept of "Mehfil" is truly special, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy music in a close-knit setting. 'Mehfil' has been defined as "a gathering where music or poetry is performed for a small audience in an intimate setting."
