claire rousay is based in San Antonio, Texas. Her music zeroes in on personal emotions and the minutiae of everyday life -- voicemails, haptics, environmental recordings, stopwatches, whispers and conversations -- exploding their significance.
rousay has released music on a range of labels, most notably Astral Spirits, Second Editions, Longform Editions and American Dreams, who in 2021 released a softer focus, a collaboration with visual artist Dani Toral. rousay’s music has received acclaim from NPR, which writes that rousay “enchants the ordinary,” and Pitchfork, which calls her music “quietly devastating.”
Cafe OTO calls her "one of the most revelatory young artists to recently emerge from America. Flipping her tools between domestic musique concrete, voice recordings, percussion and multi-instrumentalism, claire has already amassed a wide array of both solo and collaborative works exploring human relationships and self perception." claire's work is at a cross-roads of a long involvement in improvisational music as a multi-instrumentalist + percussionist, field recordist and producer using those personal and ambient recordings to zero-in on the intimate aspects of what she captures, like a human percussion in space, and the personal elements of the recordings... through her own personal contextualisation/lens this is always truly fascinating listening.
