We are BEYOND pumped to host our beloved friends and band members Faye Houston and Mike Shirley’s EP launch. For those of you you have not witnessed the voice of Faye at Resonators shows or Dub Organiser events, you are in for a treeeeeaaaaaaaat! She sits somewhere between Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and some other next level shit. Though she only ever really sounds like Faye Houston and only Faye Houston. Here’s the official info about them:
Faye Houston is a singer-songwriter from Brighton. Born in Catford, South London, her childhood was spent singing in choirs and with her musical family where father and daughters experimented with their inborn sense of harmony and Faye’s inimitable style was formed. Faye began writing before her teens, inspired by artists including Sam Cooke, Dennis Brown, Jeff Buckley, and Keziah Jones, and over the intervening decades has taken her music to the most respected venues throughout Europe and beyond.
Brighton-based guitarist and psychedelic soul Mike Shirley has written and played with Faye for over ten years. Instantly recognisable for their contribution to the UK dub reggae scene, the pair’s collaborations have taken them across the globe and helped forge a tight musical bond. Their debut EP is the product of five years writing, playing, touring, and living together. The simple, stripped-back approach mimics the duo’s live performances, showcasing their gently beautiful, thoughtful song-writing and allowing Faye’s remarkably rich, deep, and soulful voice to take centre-stage.
