On Friday 29 November, we will be celebrating the life and music of Steve Aston - a driving force in the Brighton live music scene for over ten years and a household name in UK gypsy jazz circles.
Steve Aston was a man of unparalleled musical vision, carefully crafting his compositions and sound, influenced by Django Reinhardt as much as by Eric Dolphy, Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart to name a few. He surrounded himself with outstanding musicians, whom he played with locally in Brighton and toured the UK and Europe.
The evening's programme will include a concert of Steve's music played by his own Grimaldi Quartet - Elis Davis on guitar, Matt Holborn on violin, George Berrills on double bass and Nigel Broderick on accordion, joined on stage by Steve's long time collaborator and friend Bar Zalel.
On sale will be Steve Aston's limited edition double LP, work on which was completed in March 2019 and physical production completed after Steve's passing, at his mother's wishes.
All proceeds will go to the Steve Aston Foundation for Young Musicians, founded by Steve's mother Linda.
