The Legend of St Winiborde is a musical tale, charting a dramatic upheaval in Woller town, set on the North East coast of pre-Christian England. We follow the troubled life of one of its inhabitants: Winiborde, a lone visionary of dark intent, who through twists and turns of deception, ultimately rises to Sainthood.
For this event, Iain Paxon's bare bones piano and vocals will be accompanied by a group of sonic innovators: Adam Bushel on vibraphone and percussion, Jo Burke on violin and Al Strachan on cornet and melodica. The musical is illustrated throughout using hand drawn slide projections.
The piece runs to around 45 minutes, and will include an interval.
The album was recorded over the last 3 years with musical and vocal contributions from various local heroes: Al Strachan/ Adam Bushel/Christine Cooper/Guy Hayes/Sarah Hill/Graeme Ross and the Brighton Shape Note Singers.
PLUS: Support from Jo Burke. Jo will be playing some of her recently discovered folk songs that deal with local plants and their associated folklore. Jo recently performed as part of the Brighton Festival event Culpeper's Medicine Garden. Here is another opportunity to hear these wonderful, largely un-accompanied songs.
