Listen Club 33: Anna Edmonds ‘Sonic Explorations of Local Heritage’

Date: Wed 25th March 2026
Time: 7pm – 9:30pm
Price: Advance: 5 / On The Door: 5
Location: The Rose Hill

Anna Edmonds seeks to engage listeners in a variety of heritage narratives, weaving moments of music, dialogue and sound effects from her heritage audio experiences (present and ongoing) around Brighton & Hove. Listeners will experience artistic extracts of these works, woven into a tapestry of various social and cultural moments in time, accompanied by her heritage-influenced musical compositions. The listening session aims to be both emotionally engaging and informative, exploring some of the histories Anna has immersed herself in over the past five years of her locative audio journey.

Anna Edmonds is a Brighton-based sound artist/designer, field recordist and researcher who is fascinated by heritage environments and narratives. She is also a pianist and vocalist, which she harnesses within her development of immersive locative audio experiences for mobile media. She is soon to be awarded her doctorate from the University of Brighton, where she explores public engagement and storytelling through 3D compositions of music, dialogue and sound effects. She uses iterative design in her projects, including the community in the creation and evaluation of her audio experiences, a process less common in commissioned works. She prioritises versatility and accessibility in the new technology she works with, aiming to create experiences that can be easily implemented by the heritage sector and enjoyed by a wide range of listeners.

About Listen Club

A programme of unusual sound-works, soundscape composition, and music from the present and the past, chosen by Sound Art Brighton artists and invited guests.

Listen club is all about coming together to listen to music with the possibility of sharing impressions and casual discussion afterwards. Listen Club hopes to provide a counterpoint to the quick paced personal consumption of music with a more patient shared experience; a deep listen, together, in order to foster community.

Curators will guide the experience – briefly discussing the details of the selections and providing background on the music and artists chosen. We aim to present a variety of styles and listening experiences that may include anything from long duration singular sound works to a series of work on a particular theme. On average we will listen together for 45min to an hour, with time for discussion and conversation afterwards.

Once a month, 7-9pm, at The Rose Hill
